Recent Russian bombings leave more than 10 million Ukrainians without power | World | T.W.

More than ten million Ukrainians have lost power after a new wave of Russian bombings, Ukrainian President Volodymyr said this Thursday (11.17.2022), as winter begins to squeeze a population already tested by nearly nine months of war. Zelensky.

“Currently, more than 10 million Ukrainians are without electricity,” Zelensky said overnight, noting that the regions of Odesa (south), Vinnytsia (center), Sumy (northeast) and Kiev (north) were the most affected.

Earlier, Zelensky had condemned “another Russian terrorist attack”.

“Civilian sites are the main target. Russia is waging a war on electricity and heating by blowing up power plants and other energy facilities.

Russia said civilian suffering in Ukraine was a “consequence” of Kiev’s refusal to negotiate.

“Critical Infrastructures”

Ukraine was already hit by a series of attacks on Tuesday that left about 10 million users without power for several hours, according to Kyiv officials.

At least 14 people were wounded in Dnipro (central-east), including a 15-year-old girl, in Russian bombings on Thursday, the regional governor said.

In the Kyiv region, according to the capital’s military administration, Ukrainian defenses shot down two cruise missiles and an Iranian-made Russian Shahed suicide drone.

In the Odesa region, the Russians attacked an infrastructure and injured three people, the regional administration said.

Russia also bombed the Kharkiv region (northeast), with its governor Oleg Sinekubov noting that the attacks hit “critical infrastructure”.

The shelling came in recent days after a Ukrainian counter-offensive forced the withdrawal of Russian forces from Kherson (south).
