Prilepin’s vehicle exploded on the way to Moscow, where the writer was returning from the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, media reports. A source from the Russian agency RBC explained that the writer crossed the border checkpoint on May 6. Prilep was traveling in an Audi Q7, the source said.

In turn, another source told Sputnik that the explosion took place “in a very remote location” and noted that it occurred near the Kerzhenets River, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 80 kilometers from the city of Bor.

On the way, Prilepin stopped in the Nizhny Novgorod region to eat. Immediately after the vehicle continued driving, the explosion occurred.

The attackers placed an explosive device under the hood of the car while Prilepin was in a restaurant, and according to the source, the explosion was so strong that a crater formed at the site of the explosion.
