The Observatory said “violent clashes” broke out when the helicopter landed, the first such landing recorded this year.
The Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish group working with the United States in operations against the ISIS group in northeastern Syria, said the operation began at a base near the city of Kobani and targeted a Turkish-backed armed military compound. The opposition group, Suqor al-Shamal, is in the city of Sweda in the Jarablus region near the Turkish border.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war, said the raid ended with the capture of an ISIS leader and the death of three people. The US military did not mention any arrests.

At least 900 US troops are stationed in Syria, as well as an undisclosed number of contractors.
The Islamic State group, known as Isis by its acronym, swept into Iraq and Syria in 2014, seizing vast swaths of territory. Although it was defeated in Syria in 2019, there are still sleeper cells that carry out occasional attacks against military and civilian targets.
