A 30-year-old woman has been arrested after trying to smuggle around 70 reptiles, including snakes and baby anacondas, into Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel’s capital, Tel Aviv, the world’s safest and most secure.
They were hidden in socks and other clothing inside her luggage, The Times of Israel reported.
The woman is suspected of illegally bringing animals including exotic turtles and lizards into the country and violating local animal welfare laws.
As reported by the Israeli police, the arrest was made possible due to information previously received by law enforcement, and after an interrogation and follow-up at the airport, he left the terminal with his suitcase.
Police handed over all the animals to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
