The driver who killed 8 immigrants in Texas was Mexican and served 4 years in prison

With tattoos all over his body and signs of injuries and blows, Jorge Alvarez, a Mexican national, is under police guard at a hospital, and according to videos, 8 migrants died at the bus stop and 5 with serious injuries. Near a shelter in Brownsville, Texas.

Information initially circulated by the @JusticeRGV account revealed on Twitter that authorities were investigating whether Alvarez was part of a criminal organization due to a series of tattoos similar to those used by gang members.

“He said he was wrongfully imprisoned when he was 17 after Brownsville police beat him up, then falsely accused him of assaulting a police officer. He spent 4 years in prison when a video was released proving his innocence”, details @JusticeRGV

His truck, an SUV model, is under the magnifying glass of investigators. Brownsville Police Inspector Martin Sandoval said the injured were taken to local hospitals and one of the victims was airlifted to Valley Baptist Harlingen by helicopter.

Alvarez reportedly refused to cooperate. According to Mayor Trey Méndez, the migrants involved are staying at the Ozanam Migrant Center, located very close to the scene of the incident.

“We have a lot of names out there,” he said, and they’re waiting to be fingerprinted. “Toxicology results from blood tests could take weeks,” he said of Alvarez’s condition.
