Colombia: Colonel Oscar Davila has confirmed his suicide

Forensic medicine confirms that Oscar Daveyla, former head of the Presidency’s Security Service, committed suicide in his car on Friday, June 9.

Deputy Attorney General Martha Mancera said this Wednesday at a press conference to release the results of the autopsy.

“The conclusion of the prosecutor’s office is that on June 9 the lieutenant colonel decides to take his own life with his driver’s weapon,” he announced.

Also, the prosecution has pointed out that the case regarding the death of the police colonel will definitely be closed and there are no signs of suicide.

“The conclusion one can reach without any doubt is that it has all the characteristics of suicide,” said forensic pathologist Jorge Paredes.

The results of the report indicated that the weapon had made contact with the temple and that there was gunshot residue around the gunshot entry hole, on the outside of the skull and on the tissue under the scalp.

Apart from that, there were blood splatters on the sleeve and cuff of the uniformed man’s shirt. All this suggests that Dávila himself was shot. The time of death is 6:18 pm and corresponds to the driver Javier Galliano Arango reported.

The coroner told a press conference that Colonel Dave was on anxiolytic medication. This is a sign that he is suffering from an anxiety disorder. However, the reasons for his decision are not certain.

According to the deputy prosecutor, the colonel’s day unfolded normally: He dropped off some relatives at El Dorado International Airport, had lunch and had meetings with his defense attorneys.

Dávila was left in the middle of a scandal between former Ambassador Armando Benedetti and then-Chief of Defense Laura Sarabia.

In January, he was embroiled in an investigation into the use of a lie detector against Sarabia’s nanny, Marelbis Mesa, after a briefcase containing an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

He is also involved in investigations into the illegal wiretapping of a babysitter and another employee. On Friday, June 2, he expressed his willingness to testify at the prosecutor’s office.

Miguel Ángel del Rio, Davila’s defense attorney, blamed the prosecutor’s office for the suicide.

“They warned him not to stop until blood was shed. Today he took his own life with his gift weapon. “The prosecutor’s office is an infamous harassment,” he said on Friday the 9th.

“It doesn’t make sense,” he commented on W Radio, days later, hours after paying 50 million pesos (about $12,000) to hire him as a lawyer.

The deputy attorney general responded this Wednesday that it was “ridiculous” to accuse the prosecutor’s office of not even calling him to testify.

Mancera noted that some of the prosecutors’ questions were normal in the investigation process.

Asking cannot be seen as a threat, he said. However, he has promised that the prosecutor’s office is ready to investigate possible pressures on the police.

Colombian President Gustavo Pedro supported the suicide hypothesis from the start based on what Dávila’s driver described.

The President recounted on Saturday the 10th Twitter The colonel sent his driver to get him a bottle of water and shot himself in the temple.

On Monday, after meeting the policeman’s family, Pedro asked that the judicial inquiry search for “causes of suicide”.

“Why are you so cornered to such a terrible end?” He noted that. A few days ago, he regretted that he was “not paying attention”, saying he had underestimated the pressures facing his prospective defense chief.

Speculation has abounded in recent weeks. The opposition questioned whether it was a voluntary death. “Col [Óscar] Dávila did not commit suicide, they assassinated him,” read a banner from this Tuesday’s anti-government marches. “Either we unite or they kill us,” read another sign.
