The Peruvian National Police (PNP) this Tuesday rescued five Venezuelans forced into prostitution in the northern coastal city of Trujillo and their five children who were held captive to force the women.
“The effects of the Directorate against Human Trafficking and Illegal Smuggling of Migrants rescued five Venezuelan women and five minors, who were kept in a building in Trujillo and forced to provide sexual services,” the PNP reported on networks.
The police operation resulted in the capture of two Venezuelan men, one of whom was responsible for extorting money from the exploited women, officials said.
The police explained that the arrested man extorted money under the guise of a home delivery man.
Also, 967 soles (about $265) and a motorcycle were seized from them.
According to statistics from the NGO CHS Alternativo, the number of foreigners trafficked in Peru has increased by 500% in the last eight years, mainly from Venezuela.
