According to authorities, the bones were discovered this Sunday by a group of friends who stopped to see him at the church's Sunday Mass and became concerned by his absence. Likewise, the man was grieving the loss of his family: “He lived alone on a farm far from the city, isolated and difficult to approach,” said Diberio Martins, the police chief working on the case.

After completing the tests, the authorities, in principle, believed that the cause of death could have been “sudden illness”, and since their belongings were not taken or there were no traces of blood, the possibility of assault was ruled out for a while. or signs of violence at the scene. Skeletal remains lay on the floor of the house's outer courtyard, next to a table and a fallen chair.

For this reason, it is also estimated that the animals were without food for at least two weeks after Cardoso's death, although they have not yet been able to confirm this. “The dogs probably ate the body because they were hungry,” Martins added.

At this time, investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine if there was any trauma or any details that could open up a new hypothesis. “The tissues of the body can no longer be analyzed, but the police can still check the bones to see if there are any signs of fractures or external violence. If there is evidence of action by a third party, this fact will be investigated in detail,” the police chief explained.
