This particular spring break weekend has seen “the most bloodshed” in previous years, one Miami Beach city commissioner said, and will be the real test of whether the city's efforts to distance themselves from the mixed mess have actually worked.
Gov. Ron DeSantis sent at least 140 state troopers and other resources such as drones and license plate readers to Miami Beach and other popular beach towns in a precautionary strike against spring break-related crime. Patrick's Day weekend is approaching.
After 488 arrests, including 230 felonies (and two murders), and the confiscation of more than 105 guns during last year's March Madness, the city is trying to divorce itself from spring breakers.
Miami Beach Commissioner David Suarez told “Fox & Friends'” Lawrence Jones that he and his fellow commissioners contacted Governor DeSantis ahead of time and said, 'Hey, instead of coming last weekend when there are no shootings, there are no jams, I want us to be proactive.
Last year's debacle “completely destroyed the brand,” Suarez said. [de la ciudad] as a city” and was a major concern for voters in the November elections at the time.
As a result, Miami Beach elected a more conservative-leaning mayor, Steven Meiner, and former mayor Dan Gelber.
