Five “powerful” missiles hit Lviv in western Ukraine, the mayor says World | D.W.

This Monday (04.18.2022) at least seven people were killed in a missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Lviv, 80 kilometers from the Polish border, according to the Ukrainianform news website.

According to the sources, at least eight people were injured in the attacks on military infrastructure.

The city in western Ukraine was hit by Russian missiles on Monday

The mayor of the city, Andriy Sadovyi, had previously reported through the telegram network that five missiles had fallen on the city in the past few hours.

Dense gray smoke rose from behind the apartment buildings, a resident of Southwest Live told AFP. The mayor said in a telegram that rescue workers had gone to the scene of the explosions.

“Relevant emergency services have already left for that place (where they fell) and we are trying to gather more information,” the mayor said, adding that no victims have been registered yet.

Since the Russian invasion on February 24, Lviv has been one of the main exits points for Ukrainians fleeing the attacks, as it is 70 kilometers near the Polish border.

Although the Russian bombing has so far caused little damage in the Lviv area, it has been targeted on several occasions. On March 13, Russian ship missiles targeted a large military base 40 km northwest of Lviv, killing at least 35 people and wounding 134 others.

The city was hit by an attack on an aircraft repair factory near the airport on March 18, causing no casualties.

On March 26, it was hit by a series of Russian attacks in which two or five people were injured and crashed into a fuel depot, local officials said.
