Colombia: 8 killed in plane crash in residential area

At least eight deaths were reported by authorities after a plane crashed into the ground in Belen Rosales, an important residential area of ​​the capital of Antioquia, in a plane crash in the city of Medellin on Monday morning.

The city’s first authority, Mayor Daniel Quintero, wrote on his Twitter account: “A small plane crashed in the field of Belen Rosales. “All capacities of the administration have been activated to help the victims,” ​​he said.

“On take off, reporting engine failure, Olaya Herrera was not enough to return to the airport,” he added.

The DGRT of Medellin said, “In the emergency provided in Belen Rosales, four engines with 15 units of the official Medellin Fire Department are drawing attention to the crash of a small plane in the sector. There are also aeronautical firefighters on site,” they said.

Civil Aviation immediately released a statement for public comment.

“Civil Aeronautics informs that a team of experts from the Technical Directorate of Accident Investigation of Civil Aeronautics is investigating the causes of the accident of PA-31 type aircraft registration HK 5121 covering the Medellin-Pizarro (Soco) route. According to the facts, the plane crashed in the Belen area of ​​Medellin after take off. Olaya Herrera Airport’s reaction teams are at the site of the event, checking the status of the occupants. The governor of Antioquia also joined these announcements: “The plane crash in Bethlehem has shocked us. We pray for the health of the affected people and for the firemen involved in rescue and rescue operations during emergencies,” he said.
