Around 600 prisoners in third night of riots in France – DW – 06/30/2023

At least 667 people have been arrested from Thursday to Friday (06.30.2023) night. FranceThe third consecutive riot in Nanterre follows the death of a young man who was shot by police as he tried to flee a checkpoint.

Looting and curfew

But the wave of violence was not limited to sensitive neighborhoods in the Paris region, but reached the capital, where shops were looted in the Les Halles neighborhood, in the center and in many other cities.

In various cities of Ile-de-France, mayors have imposed curfews that will remain in effect until the end of the week.

Head of State Emmanuel Macron is to chair the crisis meeting at 1:00 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT) upon his return from Brussels, where he is attending the European Council, the Elysee said.
