Trinity Rodman saved the day.
After a very slow and lackluster performance in the final match prior to the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Rodman scored twice to secure a 2-0 victory over Wales for the US Women’s National Team.
Rodman scored the first goal in the 76th minute after a perfect pass from Sophia Smith across the penalty area.
She then got the second goal in the 87th minute after sneaking the ball past several Welsh defenders to take a 2-0 lead at PayPal Park in San Jose, California.
There wasn’t much at stake in Sunday’s friendly, but it was a last chance for coach Vlatko Andonovski to see his team in action as he fine-tunes his strategy before the real action begins on July 21 against Vietnam.
Wales failed to qualify for the World Cup, but are ranked 31st in the FIFA World Rankings. The match against the United States was the first time the two countries had played against each other. It was also Megan Rapinoe’s first match after she announced that the World Cup finals would be her last.
