Tomb Raider: Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been confirmed to be working on the series for Amazon

Fleabag and Indiana Jones author and Dial of Destiny actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirmed in an interview with IGN that she is already working on Tomb Raider Streaming Series for Amazon Prime Video. It was previously reported that it would create the scripted and executive series based on the long-running video game franchise.

Although the sitcom Fleabag made her a star, Waller-Bridge is no stranger to the action-adventure genre thanks to writing the script for the James Bond film No Time to Die and starring as Indiana Jones. (She was also the showrunner in the first season of the thriller series Killing Eve.)

We asked Waller-Bridge what she learned working on those two franchises she’d like to combine in Tomb Raider, which she described as “the perfect final step in my personal adventure through this kind of franchise universe.”

“There’s a lot more I could go into,” Waller-Bridge began. “I mean, the character of Lara Croft was inspired by Indiana Jones and James Bond. So there’s a lot there, and it just felt like the perfect final step in my own personal adventure through this kind of franchise universe.”

Daniel Craig’s Bond films and indie series have always kept their focus on the characters in order to keep things grounded no matter how massive the action scenes, something Waller-Bridge hopes to emulate with the Tomb Raider series.

“I love the idea of doing The Greatest Show on Earth, as Steven Spielberg would describe it, like being able to make things on this scale and have adventures on this scale and comedy and heart have to be identical but on this genre on a great, great level,” said Waller-Bridge.
