In a surprising move, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported today His Power On newsletter The upcoming iPad Pro may actually be powered by an M4 chip, skipping the M3 chip entirely.
The company will tout the AI capabilities of the new iPad range, powered by the updated Neural Engine in the M4 chip. The M4 chip is scheduled to arrive in Macs later this year.
The inclusion of the M4 is certainly a major change, and will come alongside other expected new features like an OLED display, a repositioned FaceTime front-facing camera, a Magic Keyboard, and redesigned Apple Pencil accessories.
It's unclear what AI features will be ready for spring, as most of Apple's AI software for iOS 18 was planned at WWDC in June.
In addition to the reveal of the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro, we're also anticipating the new iPad Air lineup, which this time features a larger screen option. Updates will come to other iPad models in the fall. We also expect new iPad accessories, including an Apple Pencil with haptic feedback.
Stay tuned to 9to5Mac for complete coverage of Apple's spring “Let Loose” event, which starts on May 7.
