“Rust” gunman Hannah Gutierrez Reed was found guilty Wednesday of involuntary manslaughter and acquitted of tampering with evidence in a New Mexico trial of the 2021 shooting death of cameraman Halina Hutchins. A live round was fired from a prop gun held by actor Alec Baldwin.
Gutierrez Reed, who was in charge of security and gun storage on the film's set, was acquitted of a separate charge of tampering with evidence, after prosecutors alleged that he transferred a “small bag of cocaine” to another person after a police interview that day. Shooting.
A charge of involuntary manslaughter is punishable by up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Actor Alec Baldwin was also charged in the case and pleaded guilty in February to involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins' death after his case was reinstated last October.
