With just a few hours to go until Google I/O, some images have leaked that supposedly depict the upcoming Pixel 9 series.
The photo collection was posted by rosetkd (in Russian), supposedly depicting a set of live images of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 XL (Robot police). Hardware specs suggest the base model will have a 6.2-inch display, the Pro may have a 6.3-inch display, and the 9 XL could see a 6.7-inch display.
The post, which cites an anonymous source, says the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are “the same size.” However, the devices differ in their bezels, with the base model supposedly having thicker bezels compared to the Pro version.
The leak goes on to say that the entire 9 Series displays could reach a 120Hz refresh rate.
The alleged live images give us a clearer look at the back panel of the Pixel 9 series. The series has been rumored to feature a design change where the camera visor no longer runs along the panel horizontally. These speculative live images double down on those previous rumours, making the phones look more like the Pixel Fold.
The base model’s camera specifications are light, with the post mentioning that it will offer 0.5x and 1x zoom. The Pro and XL models are said to offer three 50MP cameras with 0.5x, 1x and 5x zoom capabilities. Additionally, both high-end models could debut with UWB support.
Internally, the Pixel 9 could arrive in a 12/128GB RAM/storage configuration. Both the Pro and XL can feature 16/128GB settings. The entire series is expected to rock the new Tensor G4 as well. The leak adds that the base Pixel 9 could have a glossy back panel with “matte bezels.” This is said to be different from the Pixel 9 Pro, which will offer a matte rear with “glossy bezels.”
The latest wave of live images joins an earlier look from April at the Pixel 9 Pro. The device was previously rumored to feature a 6.1-inch display, though that doesn’t seem to be the case now as speculation of a 6.3-inch display is floating on the table.
More importantly, after some confusion, the idea of a potential Pixel 9 XL was introduced in March. The device will reportedly take the cake as the largest in the upcoming series with a 6.7-inch display instead of the 6.5-inch display that was rumored earlier.
Google is gearing up to host its I/O 2024 event tomorrow, May 14, at 10 a.m. PT. The event should bring us some surprises, and perhaps even a proper look at the Pixel 9 series that is on track to debut in the fall.
