At Sony’s State of Play presentation, first-party studio Team Asobi announced its next project: a new Astro Bot game coming in 2024 for PS5.
Simply titled Astro Bot, the first clip shows the adorable little robot battling enemies to catchy music. We also get references to several classic games, including PaRappa the Rapper, Journey, and more. Overall, it feels like a joyful celebration of gaming on PlayStation.
After the show, More information about Astro Bot has been revealedWith pre-orders confirmed that it will not be free. Among other things, it will feature six galaxies spanning more than 80 levels, with planets including forests, beaches, volcanoes and a giant hourglass.
Continuing the franchise’s tradition of taking full advantage of PlayStation technology, it looks like Astro Bot will feature 15 new abilities designed to take advantage of the DualSense controller.
Astro Bot is back for a new adventure
This is the Asobi team’s fifth project featuring the famous robot. Prior to today’s announcement, the latest project from Team Asobi that also starred the adorable robot was PS5 launch title Astro’s Playroom, which came pre-installed on every PlayStation 5 console.
There have been rumors for years that Team Asobi was looking to make a new game after it was discovered in 2021 that the studio had created a job ad, suggesting it was working on “the most ambitious game yet.” The Asobi team would later double down on this statement almost a year later. Although Team Aosbi has remained tight-lipped on whether or not it will be another Astro Bot game, reliable leaker Billbil-kun reported last week that its subsidiary PlayStation Studios was working on another game featuring the studio’s popular mascot.
In our review of Astro’s Playroom, which received an 8/10, IGN wrote: “Astro’s Playroom is a great showcase for the diverse and impressive ways the DualSense can immerse you in next-gen gaming.”
It will be released on September 6, 2024, and you can find everything else announced for State of Play 2024 here.
