Many users have reported hacked Wii U consoles after not playing them for years

The Wii U successor, the Nintendo Switch, has been available for years. However, there are still Wii U games, as well as older Virtual Console games that aren’t available on Nintendo Switch Online yet, that can’t be played on the hybrid console. Because of this, there are still some benefits to playing Wii U.

Unfortunately, many gamers who haven’t used their Wii U in a while discover that when they start up, their Wii U just doesn’t turn on anymore. The Wii U seems to have long-standing memory system errors, especially memory error 160-0103 that can occur on the GamePad. None of the affected Wii U consoles have been modified or modded in any way, but all user reports indicate that they haven’t played a Wii Us for years.

The corruption that leads to the errors seems to be related to NAND. Users who have bricked Wii Us have reported that factory resetting the console does not solve the problem. Therefore, it became quite clear that the only way that could save the player console was a NAND backup. Unfortunately, even backing up beforehand can make for a tricky process, since Nintendo no longer offers official support for the Wii U.

In fact, due to the age of the Wii U, players can no longer send the console in for repairs. Nintendo UK has some instructions for the previously mentioned error code, but users who are dealing with the error are reporting that these instructions are not working. For now, it is suggested that Wii U gamers turn on their console occasionally to avoid the problem.
