Based on the immediate victory of legislator Catherine Cortez Masto in the state of Nevada, the Democratic Party took control of the US Senate with 50 seats, according to projections published by the main media of the United States this Saturday (11.12.2022).
President Joe Biden’s party will do so with a majority in the Senate, compared to the 49 Republicans have so far in these midterm elections.
Democrats retained control of the Senate, defying forecasts of Republican victories in both houses of Congress, making it difficult to defeat Biden’s agenda.
The fate of the House of Representatives was still uncertain, with Republicans struggling to muster a slim majority there.

The Nevada victory reflects the surprising strength of Democrats across America this election year.
Republican despair
Cortez Masto was considered the most vulnerable member of the Senate, seeking re-election in a state with economic problems and the highest gas prices in the country, adding to the frustration of Republicans who had hoped he could be defeated.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer celebrated Saturday night by tweeting: “It’s official: Democrats will keep control of the US Senate!”
“Thanks, Nevada!” Senator Cortez Masto tweeted on his page.
For his part, President Biden celebrated the result this Sunday from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where he attended the ASEAN Summit. “I’m feeling good and looking forward to the next two years,” he said, then vowed to go politically “strong” into a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping next Monday.
With the Nevada outcome already decided, Georgia is the only state where both parties are still vying for a Senate seat.
Democratic control of the Senate ensures a smooth process for Biden for cabinet and judicial appointments, including Supreme Court vacancies. The party will retain control over the committees and will have the power to conduct investigations.
