Colin Powell dies of complications from Govt-19

His family announced Monday that former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, under Republican George W. Bush, has died at the age of 84 from “Govt-19” complications.

Powell’s family said he had been fully vaccinated against the corona virus. “We lost an extraordinary and loving husband, father and grandfather and a great American,” the family said. Powell was treated at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Becky Cifrino, Powell’s longtime assistant, said she has been receiving treatment for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood, for the past several years. Powell’s family post on social media did not mention whether Powell had any underlying medical conditions.

Powell served Democrat and Republican leaders in war and peace, but his reputation was always tarnished by his attempts to justify the US war in Iraq.

Powell spent 35 years in the military and rose to become a four-star general. In 1989 he became the first black leader of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In that role, he oversaw the US invasion of Panama and the subsequent US invasion of Kuwait in 1991 to bring down the Iraqi army.

During his presidency, his approach to war became known as Powell’s Doctrine, which stated that the United States should engage its forces in conflict only if it had clear and achievable goals with public support. , And a strategy to complete. War

But his legacy was tarnished in 2003 when he appeared as Secretary of State at the UN Security Council and defended the US war against Iraq at a time of international suspicion. He cited false information that Saddam Hussein was secretly hiding weapons of mass destruction. He told the World Organization that Iraq’s claims that it had no such weapons reflected a “web of lies.”

Powell was the first U.S. official to publicly accuse Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Bush authorized the invasion. UNA’s speech visualized in a bottle what Powell had said could be a biological weapon, which was seen as a low point in his life, although he removed some elements that he considered to be based on misconduct.
