According to his version, reported by local news agency Noticias Caracol, he decided to flee Colombia because he was afraid that Trespalacios friends would kill him if they learned the young woman was dead.

“Her friends were going to kill me. “I made a terrible decision, I escaped and put her in a blue suitcase,” he said.

If convicted on both counts, the American faces up to 50 years in prison. He could impose 20 to 40 years in prison only for aggravated femicide; The punishment for destroying evidence is 4 to 12 years.
