America|  San Francisco’s New Minimum Wage to Start in July (+ Amount)

Effective July 1, 2024, San Francisco’s minimum wage will increase to $18.67 an hour, making it one of the highest wages in the entire state of California.

All employees of this city, including part-time and temporary work schedules, shall receive a salary not less than the minimum wage of $18.07 dollars.

The amount, which will be increased starting next month, will be valid until June 30, 2025, when the city will see if any other salary changes are made.

New salary in San Francisco

The San Francisco Labor and Employment Code, in its Article 1.4, establishes that the minimum wage shall be adjusted each year based on the Consumer Price Index for wage earners and workers.

Since 2014, San Francisco citizens have approved an initiative to raise the local minimum wage to $15.00 an hour by July 1, 2018, and adjust the wage rate each July 1 based on annual increases in the Consumer Price Index.

The District of Columbia and 30 states in the United States (USA) have a minimum wage higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

Some states and cities adjust their salaries in January or July. In 2024, more than 20 states across the country increased their respective minimum wages to benefit workers.

In July, two states and the District of Columbia, including many in California, are preparing to raise their minimum wages.

Cities that will increase your salary

In addition, San Francisco and other California cities are expected to raise their minimum wages starting next month, above the state benchmark of $16 an hour.

  • City of Los Angeles: $17.28
  • Los Angeles County: $17.27
  • Emeryville: $19.36
  • Fremont: $17.30
  • Milpitas: $17.70
  • Pasadena: $17.50
  • Santa Monica: $17.27
  • West Hollywood: $20.86
