The United States Dept Russian President Vladimir Putin announced new sanctions on Friday against Russian government officials following the annexation of four Ukrainian territories that he signed.
The office described in a statement that hundreds of individuals, including members of the Russian and Belarusian military, would be subject to visa restrictions and hundreds more would receive sanctions from the Treasury Department.
The State Department had already warned on Tuesday that it would impose new sanctions on Russia if it finally annexes the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, which have been controlled by Russian forces since an invasion ordered by Putin in February.
This Friday, Russia’s president signed annexation agreements with the pro-Russian leaders of the occupied territories after holding referendums labeled fraudulent by the international community.
The sanctions announced Friday will prevent 910 individuals from entering the United States, including members of the Russian and Belarusian armed forces, the office said.
Additionally, 278 government officials were sanctioned by the US Treasury Department, which would limit their ability to access funds or move money overseas.
A 14-member panel was sanctioned by Treasury for their involvement in the trade and transport of military and industrial equipment to Russia, and the Commerce Department added 57 Russian companies to its list of companies subject to restrictions.
