Actor Will Ferrell, dressed as his famous character Ron Burgundy from the movie “Anchorman,” brought laughter to viewers and attendees at a Netflix live event in Los Angeles, where Tom Brady was being roasted.
During the event, which was filled with jokes about Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and his “golden skin,” Ferrell added to the comedic banter. He humorously took aim at Brady’s NFL counterpart, Eli Manning, former New York Giants quarterback, joking: “You don’t see Eli Manning here tonight, do you? ‘That’s why Tom is afraid of Eli Manning.'” Ferrell then led the crowd “Eli Manning made Tom Brady a ‘bitch,’” he chants, prompting a mixture of boos and enthusiastic participation.
Ferrell didn’t hold back from mocking Brady’s former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, with quips like, “Hey Bill, wherever you are, just know it’s Tom, not you,” and a playful nod to Belichick’s current employment situation, “Bill, now that you’re unemployed Currently working, good luck with ZipRecruiter.”
Later, Ferrell introduced Belichick, who joined in roasting his star QB and teammates on stage.
Then, later in the night, it was Ben Affleck’s turn to roast “the goat.”
The Oscar winner, known for his love of Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee and the New England Patriots, balanced his emotions with humor while teasing his favorite NFL quarterback.
As he took to the stage to a standing ovation from the audience, Affleck began, “You’re just in time. That’s very silly of you.”
Affleck’s deep affection for the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee (which originated near his hometown of Quincy, Massachusetts) is widely known. Now retired and considered one of football’s greatest players, Brady has appeared in Dunkin’ commercials alongside Affleck and his best friend, Oscar winner Matt Damon.
Affleck took offense to Patriots fans, who criticized decisions made throughout Brady’s career and the team’s franchise. “You’re not impressed. You’re a bitch.”
Although he wasn’t full of humor, Affleck did throw in some funny jabs directed at Coach Belichick: “You got season tickets. You work for me, motherfucker.”
Host Kevin Hart took the stage after Affleck said: “Another piece of white boy humor,” and roast director Jeff Ross added: “This is the first time I’ve ever wished Netflix had commercials.”
A clear reference to a powerful party that lasted for three hours and included many awkward moments.
Hart then introduced surprise roaster Peyton Manning.
