The Giants unveil throwback uniforms in honor of their early days

In honor of their 100th NFL season, the New York Giants introduce a “Red Horn” throwback uniform.

A statement from the team indicates that the uniforms could be worn twice during 2024, although no indication was given as to which games those could be.

The Giants’ statement explains the inspiration for the uniforms this way:

The uniforms date back to the early days of the franchise and feature tan shorts. Red socks with blue and white stripes from the team’s inaugural 1925 season; Red jerseys with blue trim from 1933, when the Giants played in the first-ever NFL Championship Game; and an iconic winged helmet honoring the 1938 champions as the Giants became the cornerstone of the league’s founding. All 2024 jerseys will feature the team’s “100 Seasons” patch.

The roots of the red jersey go back to 1933, where the Giants played Chicago Bears In the first NFL Championship Game. The tan pants were worn during the 1925 season, the Giants’ first in the NFL. The Giants wore the winged helmet from 1937 to 1947. The uniform patch is in the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team’s first home in 1925.

“It feels like it’s gritty and vintage,” linebacker Bobby Okereke said after seeing (and trying on) the uniforms for the first time. “It’s a throwback to the 1920s and 30s when they were out there getting dirty. It’s a testament to all the players who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game.”
