The Apostolic Nunciature in Chile announces that Pope Francis has appointed Mons Alberto Ortega Martín as Apostolic Nuncio to Chile for the time being.

Mons Alberto Ortega Martin: Archbishop of Midila, Apostolic Nuncio.

HE Mons Alberto Ortega Martin was born on November 14, 1962 in Madrid, Spain.
He was ordained a priest on April 28, 1990 and ordained in the Archdiocese of Madrid.

Canon holds a doctorate in law.

He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on July 1, 1997 and served in the Apostolic Nunciatures of Nicaragua, South Africa, and Lebanon, as well as in the Division of Relations with States of the Secretariat of State.

Appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan on August 1, 2015.

He was ordained a bishop at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on October 10, 2015.
On October 7, 2019, in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Holy Father appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Chile. He arrived at the diplomatic mission on December 14, 2019.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Venezuela.
