Meta is permanently reducing the price of the Quest 2 128GB model to $199

The Quest 2 is about to get a bit more desirable, as Meta announced today that it will permanently reduce the price of the popular standalone VR headset.

in Blog postMeta announced that the Quest 2 128GB model will now be permanently priced at $199. This is the latest price revision to the 128GB Quest 2 model since it debuted in June 2021 for $299. Although this is the first permanent price cut this particular model has received, nearly a year ago, Meta announced that it would be raising the price of the Quest 2 storage configurations, with the 128GB model increasing from its initial price of $299 to $399.99.

Meta Quest 2 was released in October 2020 and quickly became the dominant piece of hardware in the VR market. Less than a year after its launch, Meta revealed that the Quest 2 had already outsold all other headsets from Meta (then known as Oculus) combined.

Although Quest 3 is quickly approaching its one-year anniversary, Meta has been adamant over the past several months that it will continue to support Meta Quest 2 after Quest 3 launches. However, the company has not provided a firm timeline for how long it will continue to support Headphones that are almost four years old.

While the Quest 3 has a lot to offer, such as mixed reality support and an increase in specs, the Quest 2 is still desirable, depending on the gamer's intention of using the headset. Considering that Meta doesn't plan to make Quest 3 games exclusive anytime soon, for those looking for a good entry point into VR without purchasing a specific gaming console or VR-ready PC, $199 isn't a bad price for the Quest 2.
