(CNN) It seemed like Madonna had the last laugh at the comments about her looks.
The superstar singer tweeted a picture of herself and it felt like she was applauding all the chatter about her face.
“Look how cute I am now that the swelling from the surgery is down. Lol [laughing emoji]”,” Read her tweet.
After taking to the stage at the recent Grammy Awards, Madonna came under fire on social media after a photo of her introducing Kim Petras and Sam Smith’s rendition of “Unholy” went viral.
Some said Madonna was “unrecognizable” and there was debate about whether she had plastic surgery.
Madonna pushed back, With going to her verified Instagram account to say that she “fell into the glow of the anti-ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in”.
“Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks to the bravery of artists like Sam and Kim – many people chose to only talk about close-ups of me taken on a long lens camera by a photojournalist that would distort anyone’s face!!” , the 64-year-old artist wrote in part on her caption.
“A world that refuses to celebrate women after the age of 45 and feels the need to punish them if they continue to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous,” she added. “I’ve never apologized for any of the creative choices I’ve made nor the way I look or dress and I won’t even begin.”
