Midtown East, Manhattan (WABC) – Changes in the MTA to the LIRR are already underway, but some riders are still not happy.
This is in response to complaints after the MTA provided full service to Grand Central Madison.
As of Monday, three more shuttle trains have been added to Brooklyn for morning commuting. Passengers can hop on the 6:45 AM train, 7:39 AM train, or 8:09 AM train to get to Atlantic Terminal.
Passengers still complained about train delays and last-minute route changes.
“I have to change every train in Jamaica now. My regular train is no longer in service after 12 years,” said Laura Gorman.
Last week, videos on social media showed parking-space-only trains outside Penn Station, and overcrowded platforms in Jamaica.
Interim RTA chief Kathryn Rinaldi told Eyewitness News that she is listening to these complaints. The railroad added more cars to some of those crowded Manhattan-bound trains.
“Some of those … you know there’s eight car trains and now they’re 10 car trains, or 10 car trains, now they’re 12 car trains, and it gives people a little bit more opportunity to spread out,” Rinaldi said. .
The situation in Brooklyn is a little different. She says the sheer volume of traffic in Jamaica means it is difficult for Atlantic Terminal trains to cross all those tracks.
It’s been awful,” said Ron Carter. “It’s about an hour each way, so now it’s about 4 hours, which was a little over 3 hours, about 3 hours 15 minutes, before that, it’s unacceptable what’s going on.” “.
The MTA says it won’t be making any major schedule adjustments in the near future, but it is working with passengers to make commuting easier. Customer service workers in bright orange vests helped people make their calls on Monday
