Kishida dismisses his son as political secretary due to controversy over party image

Kishida dismisses his son as political secretary due to controversy over party image

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s eldest son, Shotaro Kishida, will be removed from his position as political secretary to his father on Thursday, following media reports of a controversial year-end party at the prime minister’s official residence last December.

Pictures of Shotaro Kishida and his relatives posing for pictures at symbolically important locations in the residence, including the stairway used to unveil the last cabinet as they imitate members of the body politic, appeared in the media last week. The government initially responded by saying that the prime minister had reprimanded his son for his inappropriate behaviour, but had no intention of sacking him.

The prime minister took on the responsibility of appointing his son.
