Frontiers, dumps new episode information

Bungie promised it would share Destiny’s future in the post-Final Form era today in a Live broadcastand they did, although it focused almost entirely on the following year, rather than on the longer arc of the series as a whole, which is what fans wanted to know most about.

The biggest tease of the trailer is something specific to Year 11 of the game called “Codename: Frontiers.” That’s literally all we get, other than them clarifying that this is Destiny 2 content, and not the launch of something like Destiny 3, which couldn’t have been reasonably expected a year from now.

This doesn’t sound to me like something that looks like an expansion, both in terms of how it’s revealed (we don’t actually get “code names” for the expansions that are revealed, just names) and what it’s called, the limits. This sounds to me like some kind of…expedition we’re about to go on. Which could Of course it will be released through the expansion itself, but it seems to me more like a concept for a new arc, rather than a literal piece of content. Many fans are already hoping that we may explore beyond our solar system for the first time.

We also got a lot of detailed information about the upcoming episodes as we learned that the echoes are things that left the Traveler at the end, and they are causing chaos everywhere.

reverberation – This is our first episode starting tomorrow, focusing on Echo hitting Nessus and messing with the Vex there, with Failsafe going to be our point of contact after being largely inactive since the vanilla campaign. There’s three-man activity about plugging radiation wells and we’re going deep into the moon to find a lost civilization. There’s also a new Vex baddie who everyone thinks is Maya Sundaresh after many teases in the past years.

avenger -This revolves around a Fallen/Scorn power struggle as it is revealed that Fekrul has one of the Echoes that he placed on his employees, which is not good news for anyone. The theme of this is “Vampire Hunting” and we will become a member of the ancient order of fallen hunters. There are potions for abilities and loot. This will undoubtedly bring Crow in as the main NPC on our side.

Heresy – heresy -This is an episode about messing with the hive gods and “affirming” those existing relationships. Xivu Arath was not mentioned but she will undoubtedly be a part of this. Savathon too. They’ve said “Eldrich” a few times in terms of atmosphere, and there will be two full sets of armor in that season. The most important thing is that Dreadnaught is coming back, although given past history, it may not be all that much, and it may not always be, since this is still seasonal content, very similar to the season of Haunted and Leviathan. But we don’t know that for sure.

I liked what I saw of the episodes, but I think players wanted to hear more about the long-term plans beyond just the code name. But even this is worth speculating about.
