Desmond Bean’s best plays from the 2022-23 NBA season

After a five-year extension with the Memphis Grizzlies, check out the best plays from the 2022-23 season for Desmond Bane.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Payne has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth a maximum of $207 million, agents Jim Tanner, Max Webking and Terrence Fielder of Tandem Sports + Entertainment told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Memphis staples – Ja Morant, Jaryn Jackson Jr. and Penn – are now guaranteed long runs. Bane’s $200 million deal is the first in Grizzlies history.

Bane, 25, has developed into one of the best young shooting guards in the NBA since being selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2020 draft. He has posted career highs in points (21.5), tackles (5.0), and an assist (4.4) and field goal percentage (48%) for this past 51-win season.

Bane also shot at least 40% on 3-pointers again, which he did in all three of his NBA seasons.

Bane was an immediate contributor as a junior and made a breakthrough every year of his career, improving his scoring, rebounding and assist averages each season.

Bane has always been an outstanding three-point shooter, hitting 42.5% of his attempts outside the arc over his three-year career and increasing in volume each season. It’s the second-best 3-point percentage over the past three seasons among players who have achieved at least 3,400s. His 228-of-3s hit last season broke a Memphis franchise record.

Bane is also a dynamic shooter, capable of shooting shots both on the catch and off the dribble in the elite clip. Over the past three seasons, 73 players have attempted 250 dribbled three-pointers and 250 dribbled three-pointers; Bane is one of only five players to shoot at least 40% in each type, according to Second Spectrum.

Bean underwent surgery in May to repair a broken sesamoid bone in his right toe, an injury that caused him to miss 17 games after sustaining it in November. He is expected to fully recover before the start of the season.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and ESPN Stats & Information contributed to this report.
