DALLAS — The NCAA has an all-female officiating staff working on the Women’s Final Four semifinal and national championship game this weekend.
According to the organization, this is the first time this has ever happened. The NCAA celebrates the 50th anniversary of Title IX this year.
“We celebrate this achievement with all of those who paved the way and broke down barriers as we play our part in growing this great game,” said NCAA Officials Coordinator Penny Davis.
De Kantner would run her 24th and Lisa Jones would run her 11th. It is the first Final Four game for Katie Lukanic and Tiara Cruz.
The officiating crew has 293 seasons of Division I experience which includes 48 stints in the Final Four and the National Championship. Nine of the 11 women have played college basketball, including seven former Division I players.
“I hope student-athletes and fans see these women as an inspiration and an opportunity to contribute to the game through management,” Davis said.
