Wegmans Massachusetts Location to Closing Store Later This Summer – Boston 25 News

NATICK, MA – Wegmans has announced that it will be closing one of its Massachusetts locations later this summer.

The store at 1245 Worcester Street in Natick will close this summer, with an exact date set, according to Grocery chain website.

The 365 employees at the Natick’s all-day store were notified Thursday, all of whom have been offered jobs in Wegmans’ other area, according to a spokesperson for the grocery chain.

“Making these decisions isn’t easy. However, we’re doing it for the long-term benefit of our people, customers, and communities,” said Brian McKendrick, director of human resources, Wegman’s New England division. “Unfortunately, with such an unconventional location, we can’t Attract enough customers for our business model to work.”

The Natick store opened in 2018 and was Wegmans’ first multi-level store within a major shopping centre. At 134,000 square feet, it is one of the company’s largest sites.

“We love the Natick community and our customers, and are eager to pursue new store locations in the area for the future,” said McKendrick. “In the meantime, we hope to continue to serve Natick customers through our e-commerce offerings and our other stores in the region.”

Wegmans has five additional stores in the Greater Boston area and has no plans to close any more.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
