Two teens die in Colombia after intimate photos go viral

John Freddie Nieto, a Toledo police inspector, said the deaths were isolated.

A photo spread through WhatsApp chains among residents of the municipality of Toledo, northern Antioquia, caused the death of two minors, aged 13 and 14.

The two deaths occurred within a day of each other.

It all started last weekend when, according to sources in the case, a 14-year-old shared a private photo with her boyfriend on her cell phone.

Coincidentally, the picture also appeared in the chat of one of his fellow students, who apparently circulated it in various WhatsApp chats spread across the town.

The photo went viral and reached the mother of the teenager who took it, who gave the minor a hard time. Amid social signals, a 14-year-old girl ended her life on Monday morning in Barrancas village.

The tragedy caused by the viral image continued, and this Tuesday a second dead minor appeared, a 13-year-old girl in the village of La Casquera, who also attacked her honesty.

It is being investigated whether this is related to the photo being circulated on the network.

John Freddie Nieto, a Toledo police inspector, said the deaths were isolated and that investigations are progressing in the hands of the prosecutor’s office to clarify everything surrounding them and their direct relationships.

Toledo officials mourned the deaths of the two minors after a photo went viral on social media, revealing emotional trauma and intimate issues.
