Close friend of Prince Charles and journalist Giles Brandreth spoke about the Jubilee Weekend on episodes of the Commonwealth Poetry Podcast he hosts alongside his daughter Avra. Mr Brandreth spoke of his conversation with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, saying they were in ‘fine’ condition.

He added, “That was before the fun show, and they were enjoying the corgi shirt. They were happy with the way [the event] I was going.”

The Jubilee Party opened on Saturday 4 June with a surprise sketch of the Queen enjoying a cup of tea with Paddington Bear wreaking havoc at the palace.

Filmed at Windsor Castle over a half-day, the series is set in Buckingham Palace as the couple express their shared love of marmalade sandwiches.

The two-and-a-half-minute video highlights the Queen finally revealing the contents of her handbag, which turns out to be a spare jam sandwich for emergencies.

The clip took several months to plan and saw the bear raise his hat to reveal his marmalade sandwich.

“So am I,” replied Her Majesty, when she opened her bag and said, “Keep me here,” as she lifted the sandwich.

“Happy Jubilee, madam,” Paddington said to the Queen. “And thank you. For everything.”

The king replied, “That’s very nice.”

The sequence concluded with both Monarch and Paddington tapping into the iconic rhythm of the Queen’s “We Will Rock You” as they opened the Jubilee Concert.

According to reports, the assistants working in the palace did not want to “spoil the magic” and reveal how the clip was filmed.

However, Ben Wishaw who voices Paddington and plays Q in recent James Bond films previously said he was filmed with a mechanical bear’s head and the visual effects were later added digitally.

Reports have emerged that the fast-spreading lunch between the Peruvian Bear and Her Majesty has generated £200m in publicity with many wanting to see more of the couple.
