When launched in 2020, PlayStation 5 wasn’t just about One of the biggest game consoles ever. It was also one of the heaviest, with the full drive version weighing 9.9 lb (4.5 kg) and the Digital version at 8.6 lb (3.9 kg). Today, though, Eagle-eyed journalists at Press Start Notice the release of New set of PS5 models which weigh about 13 percent less than their launch counterparts.

But Press Start notes that the new models are on shelves at several Australian retailers right now, including guides that list their official weights at 8.6 lb (3.9 kg) for the drive version and 7.5 lb (3.4 kg) for the digital version. There are no other obvious changes to the system casing size or system specifications included, according to the report.

Lighter and more expensive than ever before

Those who follow game console manufacturing details may remember that this isn’t the first internal review of PS5 hardware. CFI-11XX 2021 9.25 lbs (4.2 kg) 7.9 lb (3.6 kg)
CFI-12XX 2022 8.6 lbs (3.9 kg) 7.5 lb (3.4 kg)

Subsequent tests showed that the weight loss in the past year was due to Smallest redesigned heat sink It seems that Improved console heat dissipation. It’s not immediately clear what makes the newer models lighter, but Reports sourced from the supplier earlier in the year It indicates that Sony was moving towards a new 6-nanometer production process for the system’s AMD CPU. Besides potentially helping with Manufacturing yieldThis change could also be part of an interior redesign that has less weight parts than in the past (or just a better, lighter heat sink). The Australian launch of the new PS5 model comes days after Sony PS5 Suggested Retail Price Raised By as much as 13 percent in many non-US regions, including Australia. Interestingly, the Japanese price increase is set to take effect on September 15, the same day that Japanese retailers are listed for the launch of the new CFI-1200 model.

Both versions of the PS5 showed a nearly linear weight loss pattern in less than two years on the market. If these trends continue at the same rates, the drive version of the PS5 will weigh exactly zero pounds on August 31, 2034, with the digital version reaching weightlessness on March 20, 2035. Frankly, we see no reason to doubt the final block-free PS5 release in the right time.
