Peyton Manning becomes angrier and angrier during the Broncos timeout disaster

Peyton Manning becomes angrier and angrier during the Broncos timeout disaster

Peyton Manning was all of us.

Manning watched helplessly as the Broncos let the clock tick in the final minute of their 17-16 loss to the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. What Manning didn’t realize was that first-year Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett was letting time pass the clock. So he can attempt a 64-yard field goal with Brandon McManusinstead of trusting Russell Wilson to turn a fourth and 5th from the Seattle 47-yard line.

“I’ve got three timeouts, I might use one here,” the Hall of Fame quarterback said in the “Manning-cast” on ESPN with a timeout of 53 to 48 seconds. “Just use this, talk about this.”

That was when panic began to turn for Manning, who played the last four seasons of his career in Denver and won the Super Bowl with the franchise. He began to try to summon the timeout himself, pointing his hands hard as the precious seconds of the clock drained away.

They’ll try to distract themselves,” Manning said, trying to think of any possible reason for what was going on in front of him.

“I think we should call in timeout, like now.”

The Broncos eventually called out a timeout – they had all three at their disposal – with one second left on the playing clock and 20 seconds left in the game. McManus missed a field goal, which would have equaled the second longest goal in NFL history, wide to the left to net the Seahawks a one-point win.

The question everyone was wondering, was why Hackett didn’t trust Wilson to turn the fourth down given his abilities, and how much Denver invested him in this off season.

“I was glad he got this [kick that didn’t count] Hackett said, referring to McManus’ bid that didn’t count because the Seahawks called a timeout.

“I thought he had a lot of distance in it, I just thought we would be able to make it. I trust him and if we have to put him in that position again, I think he will be able to make it.”

It’s safe to say that Manning disagrees.
