Pele’s family gathered to be at the football legend’s side in hospital in Sao Paulo over Christmas, as he continues to battle the disease.
More Pele family members gathered with him at the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo amid fears of the Brazilian icon’s deteriorating health.
His daughter, Kelly Nascimento, has been with him for the past week But he was joined by his son Edinho and other family members over Christmas, prompting concerns about the 82-year-old’s deteriorating condition.
Three-time World Cup winner He was hospitalized on November 29 due to a respiratory infection as he continues to battle colon cancer. He also contracted COVID-19 earlier in December, and it was recently announced that the football icon is suffering from complications and a progression of cancer.
On Christmas Day, Nascimento posted an optimistic photo of herself, Edinho and other family members in the hospital, and thanked the doctors and nurses who are taking care of her father.
I wrote: “We always have much to be thankful for, even as we spend Christmas in the hospital we know what a privilege it is to be in a hospital like @employee. To see our dad being treated by such professionals, super competent and very caring.
“Not a moment goes by that we forget this privilege. Even in grief we can’t help but be thankful. Thank you for being together, thank you for all your affection, thank you for being here right now with him. Merry Christmas. Lots of health, lots of love.” Love, lots of joy, lots of laughter and lots of passion, today and always, to all of you. One more night with him.”
