to update [Wed 1st Feb, 2023 03:45 GMT]: The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has now filed a statement in response IGN Story — saying she remains committed to E3. Here it is in full:

As you probably saw, IGN ran an article last night about E3. While we can’t comment on the specific claims in the article, we wanted to share our commitment moving forward with E3.

E3 has a rich history in our industry, and we’re always excited to feel the passion for the show and hear what it means to different people. Reviving a trade fair after a three-year hiatus and a global pandemic will always present challenges, which is why we conducted extensive research (in consultation with ESA member companies) to determine the best partner for E3 production. In choosing ReedPOP as our partner, we were able to take advantage of their rich history of hosting popular industry events, like PAX, and broader consumer shows like Comic Con.

They’ve made strong progress in reshaping the event and have garnered tremendous support from industry companies of all sizes who are not just thinking about E3 2023, but how E3 fits into their marketing plans for 2024 and beyond.

It is important to note that even as the offer evolves and adapts, it will not affect the core work of ESA for its member companies. Our priority remains defending your policy interests at the state and federal levels.

We will share E3-related news and developments as soon as they become available. If you have questions at this time, please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you for your continued support.

According to an “exclusive” from IGN, the gaming media outlet has been informed by “multiple insiders” that Nintendo, Sony and Xbox will not be joining E3 2023, nor will they have a “presence” on the show floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

While it’s no surprise that Nintendo won’t be hosting a show at the event, as mentioned in the report, the Japanese company has traditionally held a booth at E3 year after year.

The article goes on to mention how PlayStation originally pulled out of the event in 2019 due to “reported disagreements” with ESA and Xbox this year, and has already announced its own summer show and is supposed to not have a booth at this year’s event.

In a statement last September, ReedPop said it was ready to “reunite the industry” with its annual gaming event. complete drClose: Nintendo Life and Hooksut Media Sister sites in partnership with ReedPop.

ReedPop gave IGN a statement regarding its report, indicating that negotiations are under way with “several of the largest companies in the industry”:

E3 is an important event in the gaming industry, and entrusting you with an important cultural mission is not the responsibility of ReedPop. Since ReedPop came up with the E3 operating contract six months ago, we’ve worked diligently with ESA members based on their feedback to create a new kind of E3 that supports their goals and needs.

This process has taken time due to the large amount of stakeholders providing input, although we appreciate that we could have been more transparent to the questions we are still finalizing answers to. We continue to work tirelessly to create a show that brings together the global gaming industry. We believe we have created a new event format that caters to both the industry and its fans, and we are committed to building and growing it in the years to come.

As we spent a good portion of 2022 refining how E3 2023 would unfold, reflecting the feedback we requested, we didn’t send a single contract to an exhibitor until the beginning of this month. We’ve received an overwhelming amount of interest and word-of-mouth commitments from many of the largest companies in the industry, and when we’re ready to announce our exhibitors, we’re confident it will be a group that will make the trip to Los Angeles worth it. industry and consumers alike.
