More bad injury news for the Eagles

Bug infestation definitely biting Philadelphia Eagles difficult lately.

Not long after this was reported Lynn Johnson is absent for at least the rest of the regular season with a tummy problem, NFL Network reported that Avante Maddox “indefinitely. The Eagles’ nickel cornerback is said to be suffering from a “serious toe injury”.

Maddox was injured on a play as he sacked Dak Prescott during the Eagles’ loss to the Eagles Dallas Cowboys.

For the most part, Maddox looked fine before the injury. And sure enough, the Eagles looked a lot worse without him with Josiah Scott getting hurt in the slot. Scott’s struggles led the team to give K’Von Wallace some playing time with Nickel. It’s hard to get complacent about these guys because the best options in the slot are moving forward.

The good news is that the Eagles will probably get CJ Gardner-Johnson back soon. CJGJ is eligible to return from injured reserve once Sunday’s game vs New Orleans Saints. Of course, just because CJGJ can That it is activated does not necessarily mean that it will be. It remains to be seen where he is in his recovery from a torn kidney.

CJGJ clearly has the potential to play in the slot after doing so for most of his NFL career before arriving in Philly. The Eagles could choose to return him to that role with Red Blankenship remaining as the starting safety next to Marcus Epps.

When Maddox was injured and had to go on injured reserve earlier this year, the team elected to play Scott in his place. They managed to live with it but obviously the results weren’t pretty when he played. Scott is allowing a passer rating of 109.7 when targeting this year, according to a Pro Football reviewer.

The Eagles’ recent rash of nasty injuries isn’t necessarily the death knell for the team. We’ve obviously seen them overcome similar adversity in the past; Just look at power nickname. But when you lose starting right (one of the best on the team) and your corner is a nickel at first…and your starting quarterback is blowing up…well, it’s not ideal. The margin of error is thinner.
