Jon Favreau called on Roussos to stop them from killing Tony Stark

The death of Tony Stark from Robert Downey Jr.Iron Man Avengers: Endgame remains one of the most defining moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It turns out that Jon Favreauwho launched the MCU with “Iron Man” and also directed “Iron Man 2,” did his best not to let filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo kill the fan-favorite superhero.

Part of the pressure [not to kill Tony Stark] It came from Jon Favreau, who called us after he read the script…and told us, “Are you really going to kill Iron Man?” Anthony Russo said recently Vanity Fair.

And Joe Russo added, “He did. Yeah. And I remember I was panning on a stand-up corner on the phone with Favreau trying to talk him over the edge. Because he likes, you can’t do this. You’re going to destroy people, and you don’t want them to, you know, come off the stage to Traffic. We did it anyway.”

Avengers: Endgame screenwriters Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely defended the choice to kill Tony Stark shortly after the movie hit block office numbers in 2019. McFeely said New York timesEveryone knew this would be the end of Tony Stark. The book explained that Tony’s arc since 2008’s “Iron Man” has been for selfless fulfillment, so not killing him and allowing him to retire peacefully wouldn’t be right for that arc.

“We had the opportunity to give him a perfect retirement life, inside the film,” Marcus said. “[He already got that]. This is the life he was fighting for. Will he and Pepper get together? yes. They got married, had a baby, which was amazing. It’s a good death. It doesn’t seem like a tragedy. It looks like a heroic life ended.”
