Giants Training Camp, Week 1: 5 risers and 3 standing ones

“Let’s not be instant residents.”

that was New York Giants Coach Brian Dabol said on Saturday that four training camps without podiums are not enough to make firm decisions about players.

However, what is the fun abroad if we don’t make silly and surprising judgments? Or at least speculate a little? So let’s take a look at the ups and downs from the first week of bootcamp 2022. I’ve really watched three of the first four practices, so this is largely based on what I saw with my own eyes.

Darnay Holmes – Three interceptions for Daniel Jones in the first three practices. Holmes clearly understands what he sees from the attack and anticipates where Jones is heading with the ball. Holmes Saquon also forced Barkley to falter on Saturday.

Kadarius Toni – Every training that the 2021 first round pick goes through is more than it was in training camp last year. He’s been productive the first few days, even if it’s clear that he and Jones aren’t always on the same page as they learn the new team’s mistake. Plus, and perhaps most importantly, Tony seems to be enjoying himself.

Ellerson Smith – The edge of the second year was a factor in the passing rush. I’m interested to see if that continues when the sanitary pads come out this week. [One-on-one interview]

Ritchie James and CJBoard – I group these two together because they are as similar as wide receivers/returns/special staff. Both got important first-team shots with the attack, perhaps a sign that they are favorites to join the 53-man squad.

Xavier McKinney – Apparently so is McKinney Becoming a field leader Giants Defense.

Gary Brightwell – The 2021 sixth-round pick has had few chances so far.

DeVere Hamilton – Maybe that’s not fair, because Hamilton’s chances of making the team have always been virtually nil. Despite this, Hamilton was constantly running dashing passes from his left position.

backup centers The Giants have three options on the menu – Ben Bradison, Max Garcia and Jamil Douglas. None of them showed that they could consistently handle the task of executing a shotgun. Daboll was so frustrated with playing the middle on Saturday that he moved Shane Lemieux into the middle with rookie Joshua Izudo slipping into the left guard.
