Evan Peters wore lead weights on his arms for about a year in preparation for the Netflix show”Dahmer – The Beast: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Showrunner Ryan Murphy, Peters, and the other cast members talked about the popular series during Saturday’s session, per diverse. While there, Murphy thought about the lengths that Peters, who plays Jeffrey Dahmer on the series, went to embody the serial killer.

According to Murphy, Peters remained in the Dahmer character “for months,” including four months of preparation and six months of filming. Peters did this, in part, by wearing lead weights around his arms and raising his shoes to mimic Dahmer’s physique.

“He has a very straight back. He doesn’t move his arms when he walks, so I put weights on my arms to see how you feel,” Peters, 35, said, according to the outlet. “I wore my personal shoes with lifts, his jeans, his glasses, I had a cigarette in my hand at all times.”

Variety reported that Peters said he worked with an accent coach to understand Dahmer’s behaviors and speech pattern as if it were “second nature.”

“I wanted all of these things, these outside things, to be second nature when we were shooting, so I watched a lot of footage and also worked with an accent coach to get his voice down,” Peters continued, according to the outlet. “The way he spoke, he was very special and he had an accent. So I also went out and created this 45 minute audio synthesizer, which was very helpful.”

Peters also said he listened to the synthesizer daily to get into Dahmer’s mindset.

“It’s been a thorough search, trying to find special moments, times when he doesn’t seem shy, so you can get a glimpse of how he acted before these interviews and his imprisonment,” Peters continued.

“Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is a 10-episode mini-series that premiered on Netflix in September. The series chronicles Dahmer’s murders from the victims’ perspective and analyzes how law enforcement initially failed to investigate Dahmer after neighbors reported suspicious activity.

The cast includes Peters, Molly Ringwald, Nessie Nash, and Richard Jenkins.

During a separate panel appearance Thursday, Murphy addressed the controversy surrounding the show raised by the victims’ families. Some families said Murphy did not contact them before the show airedAnd the Which he later denied.

Other family members accused Murphy Exploiting their trauma and re-shock them with the content.

In response, Murphy said he would be “happy to pay” for a memorial to honor the victims in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the murders took place. An attorney who previously represented eight families of the Murphy victims called, He says he should instead share the profits from his Netflix series with families.
