EDGE Rueben ‘Hurricane’ Bain is committed to Miami

EDGE Rueben 'Hurricane' Bain is committed to Miami

Miami closed on one of its top targets overall on Tuesday night when Miami Central Top247 EDGE Rueben Pine He committed to his hometown Hurricanes after receiving the Nat Moore Trophy awarded to the best soccer player in South Florida.

Bain, who has spent time around Traz Powell Stadium in North Miami and is known as “Hurricane” Bain, became the Elite’s last chance pick for the Hurricanes.

As the No. 71 player overall and No. 10 player at the position in the class of 2023, Bain selected the Hurricanes over Florida State, Auburn, and Louisville. Alabama and Oklahoma were a few others who were highly involved at some point in the process.

While Miami has some deep family ties with the Payne family between his uncle, Tolbert Payne, being a national hero, his brother Reggie being a graduate assistant on the offensive line, and even high school coach Roland Smith accepting a job on the staff after the 2021 season, It was never a guarantee that it would become a hurricane.

Miami has had to battle through adversity again and again, whether it be visits to other schools or unwanted results on Saturday this fall.

There was a point when Bain was expected to pick the Auburn Tigers.

Miami hung in there through it all for a prospect the program felt they couldn’t lose, and persistence and relationships ultimately helped Mario Cristobal and his staff land the best non-committal prospect in Dade County.

With a commitment from Bain, who became Miami’s third highest commitment rating, the program slid to #5 in the 247Sports team rankings.

247 Sports Scouting Report

A highly productive pass rusher who wins not only with technique, but also with one of the best movers in the class of 2023. Not the greatest player on point offense, but that doesn’t matter because he shoots in the background with a plan game and is very effective at just squeezing opposing quarterbacks. He hit a ridiculous 29.5 sacks as a junior at Miami-Dade County. This was followed by the best performance of his young career, picking up three sacks in the season opener for national powerhouse IMG Academy. The ability to farm, forward, and pause outside of a hash is extremely rare for someone his age because he’s so quick to read and respond. He was mainly deployed as a forward player throughout most of his prep career, but he also got some inside looks and showed he could make a difference in the middle with his heavy hands and general physical demeanor. Not having verified data points isn’t ideal, but there’s no real reason to question his ability to make a difference at the Power Five level given what he’s put to the bar over the years. You’ll likely need some time to adjust to the pace and demands of big college football, but could take an early role at the next level as a running back before eventually starting to appear as a regular tackle for his school. Cucumber. Tweener metrics won’t be for everyone, but the ability to continually clear pockets is crucial in an age when everyone wants to stream.
