I think you can go home again. Or you could just go back to a previous job and reunite with the people you had so much success with. That’s what Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciaruka did by returning to the Golden Gopher program.
Ciarrocca originally arrived in Minnesota with Western Michigan’s PJ Fleck in 2017. During the 2019 season, the Gophers went 11-2 thanks to good running game, strong defense and chemistry between Ciarrocca and quarterback Tanner Morgan that took the Gophers’ offensive to another level. Morgan finished the season throwing 3,253 yards and 30 touchdowns. His passing efficiency rating of 178.7 placed him fourth nationally behind three players who are currently starting on the NFL teams: Joe Borough, Galen Hurts and Justin Fields. However, Morgan is still in college because his numbers suffered after Ciaroca left for Penn State after the 2019 season.
Ciaroca also struggled without Morgan. After uninspiring spells in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, he’s back in Minnesota this season, reunited with Morgan and the two made beautiful music together again. Gopher 4-0 as Morgan completed more than 77% of his passes for 11.2 yards per attempt with seven touchdowns and his passing rating of 198.14 ranks fourth nationally again. As a result, it has earned our QB Power Rankings for the first time in the 2022 season.
