US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken questioned whether Hamas was acting in “good faith” amid ceasefire talks.

Blinken, who is in the region presenting a US-backed cease-fire proposal, said Hamas has proposed a series of changes that “go beyond the positions it has taken before”.

Blinken said that while he believes the current gaps are “improveable,” that doesn’t mean they’ll close, saying, “Ultimately, it depends on people saying yes.”

“It’s time to stop negotiating and it’s time to start a ceasefire,” he said.

Blinken made the comments alongside Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha. Al-Thani noted that Qatar, Egypt and the United States had discussed Hamas’ response to the motion.

“We in the State of Qatar and our partners are committed to closing the gap to find a way to end the war as soon as possible,” Al-Thani added.
