Arch Manning doesn’t need to prove himself to anyone as one of the most popular high school quarterbacks in recent memory, but his latest achievement will only add to his fast-growing resume.
After Benton (La.) trailed by 18 points in the first half, the Texas senior led Isidore Newman to a furious victory Friday night in New Orleans. Greenes scored 33 points in the third quarter to erase the deficit and ultimately win the high scoring case, 54-52.
Manning made a tepid start and was stopped without a passing touch in the first half. But once it rolls, it can’t be stopped. He finished the night 22 of 38 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
Among the highlights of Manning’s second half was a fine throw for the fourths and fourths, when the young midfielder ran to his right and smashed a shot to take the lead.
Manning also added a dazzling touchdown run and a main reception in a trick play that led to another hit on the comeback.
Manning’s performance built on his strong start to the year, capturing eight total touchdowns in his previous two games. The first caller who was ranked 10 In the SI All-American pre-season rankings SI99had already hit more than 7,000 total yards and 100 total touchdowns before in his first three seasons in high school.
With Friday’s win, Isidore Newman improved to 3-0 to start the campaign.
