Apple supplier faces iPhone 14 camera lens quality issues

Last week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said some Apple iPhone 14 board and RAM suppliers encountered quality problems, but that should have a limited impact on mass production since the Cupertino-based tech giant has diversified its suppliers of the iPhone 14 series to avoid launch delays due to component shortages. However, Kuo now reports that another supplier to Apple – Genius – is experiencing quality issues, this time with the iPhone 14’s rear lenses.

Kuo says one of the iPhone 14’s rear lenses from the Genius likely suffered from crack-coat quality issues, which led to Apple moving about 10 million lens orders to Largan to avoid iPhone 14 shipment delays as the Taiwanese company is able to fill the supply gap.

The analyst claims that the Genius should be able to address the cracked coating issue within two months, and if that doesn’t happen, Largan will receive more orders from Apple for the lenses.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 14 series in September, and it is rumored to consist of four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There will be no mini version. If Apple does not encounter any supply issues affecting mass production, the iPhone 14 lineup will go on sale as planned.
